With their new album IMPERA, occult rockers Ghost have incurred an unheard-of variety of insults about not being “actual steel.” And if anybody is aware of about that bullshit, it’s Def Leppard‘s personal Joe Elliott, who in a brand new interview has stated that the most recent Ghost file is on regular rotation for him.
Apparently, after Ghost’s Tobias Forge stated Def Leppard impressed the brand new album, Metallic Hammer reached out to Elliott to see if he knew concerning the band. Seems he was already a fan:
“Phil [Collen, Def Leppard guitarist] launched me to them. He stated, ‘Right here, have you ever heard about this band Ghost? It’s like this type of Scando goth-metal however with good melodies.’ I went, ‘Nicely, that’s an oxymoron, cos it’s normally [makes unintelligible singing noise like someone vomiting in a bucket].’ However he performed me one thing – a few minutes every of some songs.
“I used to be actually intrigued, so I requested him to Dropbox me the brand new album. I listened to all of it, and I assumed it was completely beautiful. It’s like an entire new style of music – it’s far more Toto than loss of life steel or any of that stuff. It’s just like the track Spillways. It begins off like Maintain The Line by Toto or Jane by Jefferson Starship – a kind of traditional 70s songs that start on the piano earlier than these massive, chunky chords are available.”
Apparently, Joe’s been listening to the album on repeat since then:
“It’s been my go-to album for the final couple of weeks. I’ve bought it downloaded onto my Apple Watch so I can march away and take heed to it. I’ve solely bought a couple of albums on there, and Ghost are one in all them.
“I like the truth that they’ve bought a giant intro for the album [opening instrumental Imperium]. It reminds of the start of Grasp Of Puppets, weirdly. It begins off with these flamenco-like guitars, then it will get all heavy and duelling, form of like Skinny Lizzy. It’s clearly accomplished as a walk-on for the gigs.”
And naturally, lastly, Joe was requested: has Tobias Forge reached out a few collaboration but?
“Not but. Perhaps they are going to. We’ve bought [country singer] Alison Krauss on our new album, we did stuff with Taylor Swift 10 years in the past. We’re not fearful of collaborating with anyone.”
