To quote Rock Street Journal “the EP dons a distinct alt-rock sound with diverse musical influences working to build up its core. More than anything else, it carries in itself a hint of nostalgia; being reminiscent of the bygone days of childhood when Bollywood music became clichéd and MTV’s Coke Studio sessions became the new cool kid in town. When you listen to Talaash, you can’t help but be reminded of the kind of music the latter was renowned for popularizing, and may even have that “I have heard this before!” moment.”

SINCE ITS INCEPTION, TALAASH HAS BEEN KNOWN LARGELY AS “SAPNO KI DUNIYA.” THE THEME PERSISTED EVEN WHEN THE NAME WAS CHANGED. THE EP TALAASH DISCUSSES THE PURSUIT OF BOTH EVERYTHING AND NOTHING. THE WAY THAT VARIOUS PEOPLE HUNT FOR EVERYTHING AND NOTHING VARIES, JUST AS DIFFERENT PEOPLE HAVE DISTINCT INDIVIDUALITIES. THAT QUEST HAS BEEN TURNED INTO MUSIC AS TALAASH.

What is the meaning behind the lyrics?
THE THREE MODES OF THE EP TALAASH, NAMELY WISH, SEARCH, AND LESSON, ARE EACH REPRESENTED BY THREE SONGS AND AN INTRO. “UNMAAD”. THE LYRICS EXPRESS A STATE OF CONFUSION ANALOGOUS TO FALLING ASLEEP AND WAKING UP IN A DREAM. THE “DESIRE” IS “KAASH.” IN ACTUALITY, IT’S MORE LIKE SOMEONE DAYDREAMING ABOUT “WHAT AND HOW IT WOULD HAVE BEEN” THAN “WHAT AND HOW IT IS.” THE “SEARCH” IS “KAHANIYAAN.” IT IS A SONG THAT IS RHETORICAL IN CHARACTER AND SERVES AS A MIRROR FOR THE LISTENER. ACCORDING TO THE EP, “KAHANIYAAN” IS ESSENTIALLY THE SECOND STAGE, DURING WHICH THE PERSON STARTS TO DOUBT THEMSELVES AND SETS OUT TO DISCOVER WHAT IS POSSIBLE. THE SONG “YAAD” SERVES AS BOTH A REMINDER AND A CODA TO THE LESSON THAT, DESPITE YOUR BEST EFFORTS, NOT EVERYTHING YOU DREAM OF WILL COME TRUE. TO BE MORE SPECIFIC, THE NARRATIVE OF TRIGGERING PAST PRESENTS A STARK CONTRAST BETWEEN WHAT WE PERCEIVE AND WHAT IT ACTUALLY IS, WITH KNOWLEDGE AS THE FUNDAMENTAL THEME.
