“Khayalon Mein” by Heeya Tikku is a slow ballad melancholy about being confused and trapped in love as we mature.

We did an interview with the artist over a cup of coffee about this latest release, here’s what they had to say!

Tell us about your track

“Khayalon Mein” is about the love for the days gone by and the yearning that goes hand in hand with growing up. It is a slow ballad talking about feeling lost in the big wide world as an adult while reminiscing over the good old days when life didn’t t feel so messed up and confusing.

Tell us your inspiration behind this track

i wrote and composed this song when i was 17 and had just shifted to Mumbai for college. Living alone by myself, trying to make new friends or just trying to blend in with the colours of the world did get exhausting from time to time. Stepping into adulthood and trying to figure out who I am, where i belong, what my purpose is and who’re my people was definitely a vulnerable experience and that made lay awake for nights in my “Khayalon mein” or in my feelings. Songs like Fix you by Coldplay, Never grow up by Taylor Swift and When we were young by Adele were major inspiration behind the theme of the song.

How long did it take to record the track album EP ?

It took me 2 months for the song to be ready and out and about in the world. I produced the song in 3 weeks and and got the vocals recorded and the track mixed. the journey started in June 2022 and the song was finally released on 26th of August, 2022.

What is the meaning behind the lyrics?

“Khayalon mein” means all the thoughts and emotions that I have been keeping inside my mind and heart. The Verses talk about how there are so many unsaid conversations, unresolved feelings inside me that i keep like letters that i would never ever dare to send out in the world. it talks about having days where you watch your life flow like summer breeze in front of your eyes and having no control over the direction of the breeze or in this case, your life. The pre-chorus talks about finding some sort of imaginary path which guides you back to your childhood or the good old days where you believed in every outlandish dream and everybody believed in you. Nothing felt impossible and you a little kid felt on top of the world. The Chorus talks about the childlike innocence that you’ve forgotten along the way which makes life worthwhile and needing to get back to it, hoping for finding your “sunheri seher” which means a golden morning.

What brings next after this release?

Khayalon mein is the first song on my upcoming EP. The next song on my EP is in the works and will be releasing by the end of 2022. It is all about love and feeling heavenly when you’re with your person.
