Gus Van Sant‘s 2005 movie Final Days is being became an opera of the identical title by the Royal Opera Home (ROH) in London. Final Days is loosely based mostly on the ultimate days of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain and tells the story of a musician named Blake who escapes rehab. Blake is “haunted by objects, guests and reminiscences distracting him from his true function – self-destruction,” and finally commits suicide.
The opera model will probably be co-directed by Matt Copson and Anna Morrissey, and with music by ROH/Guildhall Faculty Composer-in-Residence and Nirvana fan Oliver Leith. Leith stated Nirvana was the soundtrack to his early years, and was “a number of the first [he] realized to play on the guitar.”
“I owe plenty of how I now make music to the sound of grunge from that point – I had by no means actually thought of the place my experimental mess and repetitions had come from,” he added.
