We did an interview with the artist over a cup of coffee about this latest release, here’s what they had to say!
Tell us about your track
For the longest time, I would wake up for school and quietly stumble into my living room to find my mother reading the morning paper with a cup of freshly brewed tea by her side. She’d read the entire paper, page by page, completely engrossed in it. If the news was particularly good that day she’d gently pop her head out from behind the sheets to say goodbye as I left for school. This was her me time. A morning ritual that brought her joy! Some days I’d even join her. But here’s the thing. Waking up in 2022 is different. It’s not waking up to the quiet chirping of birds it’s waking up to construction sounds and the buzzing of your phone. It’s not being excited to read the next development in the news because more often than not, it’s just ridiculous happenings around the world i.e. The earth getting hotter, people fighting on the daily, silencing of voices, assault, theft, war, you name it. Besides you’re barely getting on the shitter before that morning email from work hits you. And hey, remember you still have that rent and electricity bill to pay off. As human beings, we are wired to try and make sense of things and in 2022, that’s so. damn. hard. What is the point of any of this? “I hate work but I need to go so I can buy myself some sustenance. I’ve been trying to compost but the earth still got 2 degrees hotter this year. Free speech but hey someone got arrested for writing poetry. I NEED A GODDAMN SIGN FROM THE UNIVERSE THAT MY LIFE MEANS SOMETHING.” If there’s a sign is a homage to anyone that needs to hear, that if things are overwhelming (and they often are), they are their own sign. Something’s gotta give and when it does, you need to be at the frontline guns blazing. So you do what you gotta do. Unsubscribe from the news if it means that’s what’ll keep you going. Have a cup of coffee or three. Take a deep breath and try again tomorrow ‘cause Things will get better. Things will change. This is your sign. I’ve written it all in the previous field. ❤️
How long did it take to record the track album EP ?
What is the meaning behind the lyrics?
Honestly, in today’s day and age we’re all so consumed by getting things done and sometimes we’re so exhausted by the cycle. Things feel pointless every now and then and if you’re non-religious / not looking at something for hope. It gets a lot. We all need a sign. The lyrics of this song just explain the process of finding signs and making them for yourself. Keep on moving and things will fall into place.
What brings next after this release?
A string of single followed by an EP or possibly an album which is in the works (shhh) lots of different stories to tell and ofcourse 2023 is going to be a gigging year where I flip all my originals and do some fresh sounds for live events!
