Aneesha’s latest single “Just Want You” is all the desires a lonely heart brings up when it’s packed in isolation.

We did an interview with the artist over a cup of coffee about this latest release, here’s what they had to say!

Tell us about your track

Experience passion through Aneesha’s new single: ‘Just Want You’. Hailing from Delhi and now based in Goa; a ‘sultry voice’ and ‘infectiously catchy music’ are terms one can associate with upcoming vocalist and music producer Aneesha, who proves this on her new Synth Pop single, ‘Just Want You’. While the song is relatable in its discussion on monogamy and commitment in today’s world, the mood it creates transports you into a zone of desire, passion and temptation. Aneesha started writing this melodic masterpiece two years ago, inspired by a close friends brewing relationship. Aneesha’s own ambivalence regarding the topics of relationships and societal norms urged her to write this piece from a female perspective. Aneesha and her co-producers, Utkarsh Verma and Denis Thomas, created a sensual soundscape to complement her phenomenally soothing vocals alongside percussive and melodic elements that create a singable and danceable piece of music. The artists inspiration comes from Pop/RnB female artists such as Banks, Dua Lipa, Tinashe, Fletcher and more. Just Want You is much more than a catchy and danceable tune, it is an experience that invokes passion and walks a listener through a whirlpool of emotions experienced by young people in the world today- with the magic of Aneesha’s raspy and sensual voice and lyricism. Her versatility and raw talent makes her an artist to watch out for.

Tell us your inspiration behind this track

I started writing this track almost 2 years ago in the middle of the lockdown. The loneliness in my own life at that time and the lack of inspiration led me to the story of two of my friends that involved their dramatic coming together; with lots of passion in not the simplest of contexts. I remember the first draft of the song itself had the chorus hook that I settled on finally after all these months. In terms of the soundscape, I was listening to Fletcher’s album ‘The Se(x) tapes’ and was obsessing over the track – ‘If I hated you’ – and that track directly inspired the vocal arrangement and sounds I tried to go for with my own track. Over time however, I realised I wanted ‘Just Want You’ to embody that forbidden feeling through harder slapping beats and more overall grunge- similar to the artist Banks, who I love. So my co producers Utkarsh Verma and Denis Thomas who both worked on the song at different times in its journey, focused on vocal effects- vocoders and vocal chops, and stronger baselines and bass sounds to get that grungy feel. Kaushik Manikandan who I worked closely with on the mix and master – focused on creating a vocal centric mix as that’s what I wanted, but respecting the low end and really bringing out the feel of the track.

How long did it take to record the track album EP ?

Around 2 years to the final version!

What is the meaning behind the lyrics?

The lyrics are embodying the story of my friends and their lockdown romance from the female perspective – of wanting what you can’t have in the domain of love and monogamy. The lyrics are meant to make you feel the conflict of desire Vs. Societal Norms when it comes to monogamy and relationships. The chorus truly embodies the idea of the battle between the id and the ego- wanting to give in to what the heart desires because of the girls own loneliness.

What brings next after this release?

My goal in 2023 is to try to release 1 song a month. I have two more solo releases ready to go, and will be putting them out there soon! I also have a budding indie disco project with collaborator Konark Sikka, whereby we aim to keep releasing tracks for a new subset of audiences very consistently.
