We did an interview with the artist over a cup of coffee about this latest release, here’s what they had to say!
Tell us about your track
Kaynat is about yearning the once in a lifetime kind of love that you had and hoping to reunite with the one while gazing the midnight stars. It’s about how “Kaynat” (universe) works mysteriously and conspires to help you find them again. And even if you don’t, you wish that in an alternate universe you’re still together with them. Like in some sense of reality, you are each other’s soulmate and end up together.
Tell us your inspiration behind this track
Well, there was this one boy that I was with a few years ago and we were in love, but due to unsaid misunderstandings and going through motions of life we fell apart. He did wait for me for a year or so but I didn’t have the heart to give it another chance until it was too late for me to be with him. Kaynat is an Urdu term for universe and I just really wished upon midnight stars to cross paths with him again and eventually be together. Kaynat is all about wishful thinking and dreaming because that has been my reality for a while now. In the end of the song there is a key change and we have the lyrics change to “haath mein tera haath hai ab na koi dar, khushnuma mera jahaan hai” from “haath mein tera haath tha jab bhi dar lagta tha tu saath tha “ because at least in this song and hopefully in an alternate reality I am his and he is mine.
How long did it take to record the track album EP ?
This song took its sweet time to be out in the world. I worked with Shivansh Agarwal who is the producer of the song and Maadhavan Bhattacharjee who is the mix engineer of the song. Since both of them live in Delhi and I reside in Mumbai we had to make the whole song over multiple zoom calls over the span of 4 months. It was a new way of making music for me because I had done it in person before but online platforms did wonders for the song as well as it helped me finally make music with the ones I wanted to make irrespective of location differences.
What is the meaning behind the lyrics?
Kaynat is all about story telling. It paints a picture of how years later you’re down a familiar path and see somebody from behind who looks like somebody you used to know. All of sudden the nervousness tingles through your veins as all the memories from yesteryears surfaces up. It all feels unreal because you had hoped and imagined this moment over and over again in your dreams praying to “kaynat “ (universe) to make it happen. It reminds you of how just one touch of that person’s hand was all you ever really needed to get through the tempests of life.
What brings next after this release?
The next exciting thing after this release would be me finally releasing My debut English track “Changing seasons “ but more on that later!!!
