Sankeiy on his way to start a revolution as he fights his way to decriminalise weed consumption in India.

The track was first recorded in 2019 (featuring political speech by New York Mayor which I couldn’t find the legal copyright details for, so I had to remove it) After which I performed it live on instagram, YouTube and this resulted in me ironing out the track with different sonic textures. The lyrics are written clearly about the chief benefits of Marijuana on mental health and physical health, along with the euphemistic play on the words “Reefer Madness” by the health officials. – Sankeiy

We did an interview with the artist over a cup of coffee about this latest release, here’s what they had to say!

Tell us about your track

The track advocates for marijuana legalisation through it’s anthemic slogan “Regulate it. Legalise it. Decriminalise it!” and is based on the dichotomous nature of the anti-marijuana campaign’s ill advised and unscientific treatment of the cannabis plant.

Tell us your inspiration behind this track

I was inspired to write about the track based on my reading of Anti-Marijuana literature by Kleiman and others, which describes the process of criminalisation. Documentaries such as “Grass is Greener” and “13th” which touch on the intersection of public order policing of petty offences with infusion of race and caste oppression further inspired me.

The chief benefits of Marijuana on mental health and physical health, along with the euphemistic play on the words “Reefer Madness” by the health officials. Track was first recorded in 2019 (featuring political speech by New York Mayor which I couldn’t find legal copyright details for).
