Maggie Monica’s single “Song in D” is all the happy vibes with a sad touch.

Not only because those are my favorite kind of songs but because the dichotomy paired well with the song being about having love in your life but not being sure if you deserve it. (We do!!!) The writing of the song was inspired by the happenings in my life at the time. Once I wrote the guitar part I started writing just to navigate my thoughts, I got through the second verse and thought this might actually be a pretty good song! The verses reflect the ways that I was finding to push that person away at the time.

We did an interview with the artist over a cup of coffee about this latest release, here’s what they had to say!

Tell us about your track

Song in D is a happy sounding sad song. Not only because those are my favorite kind of songs but because the dichotomy paired well with the song being about having love in your life but not being sure if you deserve it. (We do!!!)

Tell us your inspiration behind this track

The writing of the song was inspired by the happenings in my life at the time. I was in a confusing spot where I really loved the person that I was with but found myself pushing them away. Once I wrote the guitar part I started writing just to navigate my thoughts, I got through the second verse and thought this might actually be a pretty good song! Its a dope part about music, I use it to heal myself and every once and a while I write something that could help some other dudes who are feeling the same way.

How long did it take to record the track album EP ?

It took 4 hours to record the song start to finish. We were shocked at how fast it came together but my guitarist (Aaron Rizzo) and my percussionist (Sean Ferguson) both really understood where the song needed to land. I’m so grateful for their artistry, they’re some pretty cool humans.

What is the meaning behind the lyrics?

“I still don’t know if I believe in love, I mean I do not know if I can still be loved” the self correction in the chorus is the most telling part of the song to me. It wasn’t that I didn’t have a genuine love in my life it’s just that I was scared I didn’t deserve it. The verses reflect the ways that I was finding to push that person away at the time. Pretty silly human stuff going on.

What brings next after this release?

More tunes man! My team and I are in the midst of moving down to Atlanta and we can’t wait to start a groovy new adventure and to see the music that’s born from it. I hope you hang around to see what happens 🙂
