“Saato Janam” by Secrets For Sale is a about where Lord Shiva meets Sati again, in another birth, but with no memory of him, living a life he knows nothing about

“Saato Janam” is our band’s debut single which is an alternative pop-rock song. The lyrics deal with a hypothetical where Lord Shiva meets Sati again, in another birth, but with no memory of him, living a life he knows nothing about. What should you do when you find the great love of a previous life? Remind them of what once was, and potentially undermine their life so far ? or let them live the life that they built without you in bliss? The song is structurally simple and only 2 minutes long, so that helps. The lyrics deal with the one-sided conversation of Lord Shiva with his beloved Sati, meeting again in a different birth, with different names and lives that they’ve never known. It’s a reassuring dialogue of pure, and innocent love that can warm even the coldest of hearts. We plan to release one song every month, till the end of the year, with everything plotted out and planned with nervous excitement.

We did an interview with the artist over a cup of coffee about this latest release, here’s what they had to say!

Tell us about your track

“Saato Janam” is our band’s debut single which is an alternative pop-rock song in the vein of bands like The Local Train and Pentagram, but with the influences of Linkin Park, Breaking Benjamin, and As I Lay Dying. The story of the song acts as an epilogue to Lord Shiva and Sati’s tragic love story, which begins with an end and continues till eternity. The lyrics deal with a hypothetical where Lord Shiva meets Sati again, in another birth, but with a different identity, with no memory of him, living a life he knows nothing about. Keeping in mind the dreadful “end” of their previous encounter- in the story that we all know- we are left with a question. What should you do when you find the great love of a previous life? Remind them of what once was, and potentially undermine their life so far ? or let them live the life that they built without you in bliss? But we’d like to believe that love persists.

Tell us your inspiration behind this track

Our inspiration for the track was all the people in our lives with whom, even a lifetime of memories and experiences wasn’t enough. All the special people in our lives that have incidentally, been around the recording of this very song from Day 1; be it- accompanying us in the studio while tracking, or giving us constant and honest feedback which is so important as artists. Our own perceptions of the art were unreliable, owing to how close we were to it. Having your muses around the process of the art really helps bring a kind of aura to it. To us, it’s more than just a song that we wrote, it’s an ode to those without whom we wouldn’t be here, to begin with.

How long did it take to record the track album EP ?

Not even joking, 2 hours to track guitars, 2 hours for vocals and harmonies, 15 mins for bass, 1 hour for drums, and a solid 5-8 hours of mixing and mastering. Legit it took us that long. The song is structurally simple and only 2 minutes long, so that helps.

What is the meaning behind the lyrics?

The lyrics deal with the one-sided conversation of Lord Shiva with his beloved Sati, meeting again in a different birth, with different names and lives that they’ve never known. Lord Shiva convinces her to reach into her heart of hearts and recall what once was, and the great love that they shared. It’s a reassuring dialogue of pure, and innocent love that can warm even the coldest of hearts, urging everyone who listens to the words to follow their heart.

What brings next after this release?

We plan to release one song every month, till the end of the year, with everything plotted out and planned with nervous excitement. We have big plans for this city, for the industry as a whole, and what we can contribute to the cultural zeitgeist of India. We have found a sound that is our own and represents who we are as artists and as people, and we can’t wait till we’ve changed the world.
