“Sunny Devil” took inspiration from sampling old Sunny Deol dialogues over their instrumental tracks and were pleased with the results.

“I Don’t Wanna Be Your Dog” is the first single released by Sunny Devil. It features sampled dialogues from the old Bollywood movie “Ghatak”. The band drew inspiration from Hardcore bands like Knocked Loose and Kublai Khan TX. In the near future, the band plans to release these songs as singles along with music videos. Once they have enough material ready, they would potentially look to release an EP.

We did an interview with the artist over a cup of coffee about this latest release, here’s what they had to say!

Tell us about your track

“I Don’t Wanna Be Your Dog” is the first single released by Sunny Devil. It became available for streaming on all platforms on 19th August, 2022. It features sampled dialogues from the old Bollywood movie “Ghatak”. The dialogues were chosen specifically because they match the intensity and power of the Hardcore music the band likes to play.

Tell us your inspiration behind this track

Sunny Devil drew inspiration from Hardcore bands like Knocked Loose, Kublai Khan TX, Spite and Varials, which they jokingly referred to as “Sunny Deol Hardcore” (Sunny Deol is a Bollywood actor famous for his angry and aggressive dialogue delivery). While working on the instrumentals for their songs, they were trying to find a suitable vocalist. One day, they experimented with sampling old Sunny Deol dialogues over their instrumental tracks and were pleased with the results. The intensity and heft with which the dialogues were delivered was a perfect match for the music.

How long did it take to record the track album EP ?

“I Don’t Wanna Be Your Dog” was recorded, mixed and mastered by the band. The process took close to 2 months to complete. During the mastering phase of the track, the band started shot the video for it at Basement Co. based in Noida. The video editing process also took around 2 months to complete. So, the overall process from start to finish took roughly 4 months.

What is the meaning behind the lyrics?

The lyrics deal with not bowing down in the face of adversity and not compromising your ideals when confronted with a tempting opportunity. In essence, it deals with the timeless subject which has a fodder for countless rock songs, i.e. not working for “the man”.

What brings next after this release?

Sunny Devil has been working on a lot of material and has completed the recording process for a handful of songs. In the near future, the band plans to release these songs as singles along with music videos. Once they have enough material ready, they would also potentially look to release an EP.
