Tshering Bhutia’s single “Grocery Shop” is a subtle take on everyday normal things you experience while taking a walk on the road.

Tell us about your track

Grocery shop is a metaphor for home. The song is reminiscent of a time when the family would go to the grocery shop, decide what’s for dinner, pick up little amusements at a discount. Watching it restock in the morning brings me both comfort and unease, as is painted by the lyrics. The imagery is supported by lush vocal harmonies, and towards the end, by the sound of rain and traffic.

Tell us your inspiration behind this track

Home is. And a literal grocery shop near my apartment restocking loudly at 4 in the morning. The idea of sleeping on the warm empty racks inside the shop felt nice. Especially coz it was freezing then.

How long did it take to record the track \album \EP ?

Arranging the guitar parts and harmonies took like a week. Recorded the song at a friend’s home studio in a day. Mixing took 2 weeks or more, it was the first time I ever did it.

What is the meaning behind the lyrics?

The lyrics talk of mundane things like watching the traffic die, hearing the grocery shop restock, of not being able to fall asleep and of paperbacks – things that I associate with home. The chorus is a little sadder, hopeful too. Talks of when the wintergrass resurfaces and when chocolate isn’t enough to make me feel better. That a person being there with me would be the preferred choice of ‘home’.

What brings next after this release?

I’m writing an EP! A cool live session with compassbox studio should be up soon. This song might make it to the EP too.
